Recent judicial decisions regarding legal recognition of same-sex parents are, literally and legally, all over the map. In this Web-Talk, our panel will address the key challenges programs face in serving families that include a non-biological parent when governing law in a state is still unclear or when state laws differ. Topics to be discussed include recognition of parentage determinations of other states, the marital presumption of parentage and its applicability to same-sex marriages, and trends in parentage legislation, including laws allowing for more than two legal parents and updates to the Uniform Parentage Act.
