Deputy Director, New Jersey Office of Child Support

Location: Trenton, New Jersey

This position will report to the Assistant Director of Child Support. Duties and responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • contract administration which includes complex technical deliverables and vendor staff oversight
  • ensuring and overseeing the coordination and provision of technical assistance
  • coaching and mentoring over 1500 staff  in 65 offices statewide
  • implementing strategic change, both within and outside the organization, in order to meet organizational goals
  • establishing an organizational vision and implementing it in a continuously changing environment
  • meeting customer expectations
  • leading people in an effort to meet visions and goals
  • responsibility for making decisions that produce high quality results by applying technical knowledge
  • analyzing problems and calculating risks
  • managing human, financial and information resources strategically
  • building coalitions internally and with other Federal agencies, state and local governments, nonprofit and private sector organizations, foreign governments or international organizations to achieve common goals
  • encouraging an inclusive workplace that fosters the development of others, facilitates cooperation and teamwork, and supports constructive resolution of conflicts
  • developing, facilitating and managing external and internal program compliance in an effective and timely manner, responding to corrective action measures and ensuring program components are continuously moving forward to ensure no penalties
  • participating in and/or leading Re-engineering business processes, performance/change management improvements throughout the program areas as appropriate to maintain high efficiency, streamlined services and collections.

Examples of tasks performed by positions at this level:

  • devise improvement plans for the operation of the unit; approve work of others
  • establish policy on the provision of services
  • direct the administration of programs
  • promote the development of agency services
  • determine staffing needs
  • direct of coordinate activities and programs  between or within agencies
  • evaluate the administration, objectives, efficiency and effectiveness of programs and services, plan implementation of projects or programs


  • Graduation from an accredited college with a Bachelor’s degree
  • Five (5) years of comprehensive administrative or supervisory experience in a large-scale agency performing functions and activities directly related to the development of planning, training, and coordinating responsibilities of individuals involved in the obtaining of support for families
  • Preference will be given to a candidate who possesses two (2) years of experience in the administration of a Child Support Program.  Knowledge of Information Technology systems related to the field of Child Support (e.g., NJKids) a plus.
